Our first and only day in Chicago was intense, brisk and above all, fascinating. Nowhere have I seen before such a large collection of skyscrapers this architecturally diverse or beautifully designed. Nor have I, prior to this, sampled a deep-dish pizza so delicious. Or any deep dish pizza, for that matter.
The Windy City sure lives up to its reputation as the codifier of modern skyscraper design. The whole city is full of various multi-storey buildings, many of them stunning exemplars of the Art Deco style of architecture and interior design, itself characterized by simple, sharp-angled geometric shapes accented with elaborate designs.
While it does look beautiful, Chicago is definitely not a place one would want to spend a lot of time in, at least not today. The weather’s unpredictable, and the humidity’s through the roof. Thankfully, there were places to get refreshments every few blocks, so that wasn’t much of an issue.
Oh, and the pizza must be eaten to be believed.
