2014 Seyahati / Road Trip

Last day in Boston

Friday the 8th was our last day in Boston. We again walked to MIT around noon. I saw Zehra and Irem off to a meeting at Boston University and walked to my old dorms. I had stayed at MacGregor House from 1978 to 1981. Then it was a men’s dorm, now it is coed. I had moved to Next House for 1981-82, my last year, when that dorm was opened. They were not allowing non-residents inside the dorms, I could only see the lobbies. Not much has changed.

I attended the Juma prayers at the MIT Religious Activities Center. In my time, we would hold Juma prayers in the ballroom of the Ashdown House, the graduate dorm (now it is called something else). At the end of the prayers I chatted with a group of Turkish guys. They were all physicists.

Then I attended Ali’s certificate ceremony. Zehra and Irem joined us. We wanted to take Ali to some of the places we saw while he was in class during the week. We first walked to Toscanini’s for ice cream. Then we went to downtown Boston and walked to Faneuil Hall, had clam chowder (of course New England style) at Quincy Market. Ali did not enjoy it as much as I hoped. He complained about being tired and wanted to go home. We dragged him through Boston Common and Public Garden, and strolled though the Commonwealth Avenue. Then we headed home. We spent the evening preparing the suitcases for tomorrow’s trip.
